Competition Rules EQDM 2024

The Tournament Rules for Equality Dance Competitions of the DVET (German Association for Equality Dance Sports registered association) incl. the current annex apply to the course of events during the open German Championships. The rules and regulations are available on the DVET homepage in the download section (only available in German).

Dances of the “General Look” at the German Championships for men’s and women’s competitions are:

16+ men and women

Ballroom: Quickstep
Latin: Jive

Senior Competition men and women

Ballroom: Slow Waltz
Latin: Chachacha

In all finals closed marking will apply.

The A-finalists of both age groups will be asked to do a brief presentation dance at the beginning of the finale. The dance may be chosen individually from the five dances of the respective section and must be communicated to the tournament management immediately after the announcement of the finalists. The choice of music is up to the organizer. The presentation dance is not part of the rating. (Note: scored solo dances are not provided.)

Show Dance Rules

Tournament rules for show dance couples and show dance groups/formation teams:

For the show competitions of the Equality DM 2024 in Cologne, the existing tournament rules for equality dance competitions of the DVET apply:

As the DVET rules are based on the “old” ESSDA rules, slightly different rules apply for the DM and the upcoming European Championships, at least for the time being. However, as the rules do not contradict each other, but above all have different concretisations, there is no need to work out different shows for the DM vs. the EC. The most important changes concern the time of the music and the judging period.

If you would like to find out more about upcoming ESSDA tournaments, you can find explanations of the differences and the rules for the upcoming European Championships here:
